Amadet Serrano (1499-1522)

I am Amadet Serrano, bonetero, and I proudly carry the flag of my guild in the army of Brotherhoods.

Born in Valencia twenty-three years ago, I worked in a clothing shop before the war began. I have always been one of the Germania, but now I’ve lost all hope of our victory. Our captain, Vicent Peris, upon returning to Valencia to fuel the revolt has just been beheaded! His head has been dragged throughout the town. It adds to the long list of deaths, such as Pelaire Joan Llorenç, who died last summer when no one heeded the calls to avoid direct confrontation with the viceroy and nobles. How right he was! Although at first defeated, the Duke of Segorbe to the North and the Marques of Velez to the South fought battle after battle, until the Count of Melito could enter triumphantly into Valencia in November of last year. We resisted at Alzira and Xativa, but after the death of our captain, I’m not certain we can hold out for much longer.
