Felipa Castelló (1475-1530)

I am Felipa Castello, Widow of the weaver, Joan Alfonso.

I was born in Valencia fifty years ago, daughter of an aluder. At twenty I married Joan Alfonso and had three children. I have lost everything because of the war of the Germania. My youngest child died in the city, a victim of the plague that visited the city at the stat of the revolt. My two oldest left with the host of Esteve Urgelles Russafa and never returned- I was told they were killed near Beacon. My husband Joan, who deeply admired the teachings of Joan Llorenç Pelaire, was sentenced to death by the new viceroy Germaine de Foix, once the revolt was ended. He was executed for forming the Municipal Council of the Germania. He, like so many others, was executed for having the courage to fight for his beliefs. Now, alone in the world, I must survive as well as I can, in desperation, I have ended up as themistress of a brothel.
