Lluís del Milan (around 1506 - 1559)

I am Lluís of Milan, courtier, poet and musician.

I was born in Valencia almost 35 years ago. I spent my youth abroad, in various Italian courts and in the court of the Portuguese King, Joao III. For some time now I have been at the service of the Duke of Calabria, Viceroy of Valencia. His court has nothing to envy in the rest of Europe: the plays, poetry, dance, music, hunting, tournaments and other entertainments have created a lavish, gallant and refined atmosphere. The quality of the music of Duke’s Chapel is unparalleled and his library, legacy of King Alfonso the Magnanimous, is splendid. It is in this environment the arts have been allowed to flourish, whether by the hand of armed knights and courtiers, as Joan Ferrandis de Heredia and Francesc de Fenollet, or nobles ladies, such as Angela de Boria. Even I myself have created prose, poetry and drama'scompositions and have written a treatise on viola for the courtiers to learn the beautiful art of music.
