Revolution of 1868 commonly referred to as “The Glorious Revolution.” Gave rise to the Democratic Sexennial, which experienced a provisional government (1868-1871), a democratic monarchy with Amadeo de Saboya (1871-1873) and the First Republic (1873-74). The revolution was sparked by the progressive and democratic middle classes who attempted to put an end to moderantism and earn universal suffrage, the abolition of slavery, freedom of the press and the redistribution of wealth.
