The customs building directed the Maritime trade in Valencia, and was responsible for receiving the custom taxes on goods entering and exiting the city's port. From1758 to 1802 the customs office was housed in the building, constructed in the neoclassical style, that currently serves as the courthouse and from 1828 to 1914 the customs office was located in the tobacco factory.
