Martínez Campos

Arsenio Martínez Campos (1831-1900), Segovian soldier. Fought in the war against Morocco in 1859, was part of the military expedition against the revolutionary Mexican government of 1861 and was promoted to general in Cuba in 1869. In 1873 he repressed repressed the Cantonalist uprising in Valencia, bombed the city and occupied under the role of captain general as ordered by the Republic. The year after, however, he conspired to restore the Bourbon monarchy and achieved his goal via his military revolt in Sagunto, la Saguntada. Later became commander-in-chief in the War of Melilla of 1893 and in the Cuban War in 1895.
