Narváez

Ramón María Narváez, an Andalusian solider and politician (1800-1868). He was the primary leader of the moderates between 1843 and 1868, the period in which they governed with the brief exception of the Progressive Biennium of 1854-56. He led the coup d'état against the Progressive general Espartero in 1843 and received the dukedom of Valencia as compensation, created immediately. He was known for stabilizing the advances of the liberal revolution due to his selfish, authoritarian, and conservative government.
