Peris y Valero

José Peris y Valero, lawyer, politician, and journalist from Valencia. He was one of the leaders of progressivism of the Valencian capital thoughout the entirety of the liberal revolution. He was a volunteer in the National Militia during the rule of Espartero (1840-1843) and exiled afterwards at the hands of the moderates for a number of years. In 1854 he supported the progressive revolution and was elected mayor of Valencia. In 1868 he presided over the Junta de la Revolución Gloriosa (“Comittee of the Glorious Revolution”) in Valencia and was named representative to the Court and civil governor of the province.
