Republic

The first Spanish Republic, which lasted only from February of 1873 to December of 1874, from the abdication of King Amadeo I, originally from Savoy, to the coup d’état of General Martinez Campos that gave rise to the Bourbon Restoration. The republican period was dominated by constant tension between the centralist unitarians, with their conservative tendencies, and the progressive federalists, leading to authoritarianism and loss of public support.
