One of the symbols of the newly emerging world of capitalist manufacture was the Tobacco Factory, which grew to employ over 3000 workers in a single building. From 1828 to 1914 it located in the city’s customs building and in 1914 was transferred to El Palacio de la Industria de la Exposición Regional (“The Palace of the Industry of Regional Exhibicion”) of 1909. There it was preserved until recently, when the building was acquired by the city council of Valencia.
