Political entity constituted in Valencia in July of 1873 by the National Militia. Created in accordance with other Valencian, Andalucian, and Murcian cantons who intended to install a federal regime for the provinces, municipalities, and older historic territories. The motion was driven by the so-called uncompromising federalists in light of Pi y Margall’s government opposition to creating the federation immediately from the ground up, even though the Courts had already given their approval for a federal republic. The Valencian Canton was dissolved only three weeks after General Martínez Campos bombed and occupied the Valencian capitol.
