Joaquín Antonio de Castellví (around 1738-1800)

I am Joaquín Antonio de Castellví Idiáquez, the Earl of Carlet and host of a gathering of enlightened thinkers.

I was born in Valencia more than 60 years ago and I am the Earl of Carlet, L'alcúdia, Benimodo, the Ressalany, Gestalgar, Sot of Chera and Sans and Baron of Xaló, Llíber, Gata, Tous, Estivella, Beselga, Arenas, Torre of Lloris and Miralbó, all titles I inherited from my parents, Joaquín de Castellví and Manuela María Idiáquez. With great enthusiasm I have served my Valencian country and Spanish nation. I have worked several municipal positions in Valencia including Ambassador to the Monarchy, first at the Santa Sede and later in Paris, along with the Earl of Aranda. I reside there until the Revolution of 1789, when I had to leave the city due to a radical turn of events. Despite this, I admire the French's ideals and in my extensive library I own copies of Voltaire, Rousseau, and all the volumes of the Encyclopedia. Now I live in my palace at Valencia, where I am dedicated to physics experiments and hosting social gatherings with other men of enlightened thinking.
