I am Pedro Juan Mallén, bookseller.

I was born in Valencia 25 years ago, although my father is of French origin. At the moment, we run a bookstore next to the parish of St. Martin. It is one of the most important places in the city and with it we contribute to the diffusion of lights from France. Many people detest the French but those who do are ignorant because they are not aware that their free ideas and enlightened thinking have birthed the book of books, the Encyclopedia, the ultimate source of Knowledge. Fortunately, Valencia as great copies of the work of the brightest intellectuals in the city: Mayans, Jorge Juan, and even Cavanilles, the botanist. In addition, we have recently depended on a daily newspaper that has helped fuel the most intellectual and ideological controversies in town.
