Jaumeta Martí (1273-1330)

I am Jaumeta Martí, a regular customer of Berenguer Tovià.

I was born 43 years ago in Morvedre. My father, Joan Martí, arrived shortly after Morvedre was conquered and learned the goldsmith trade in the workshop of the Jew Isaac Abenvives. At age 20 I married Ximén Gomis, also a goldsmith, and we moved to Valencia, to the parish of Santa Catalina. The workshop of the bruneter Berenguer Tovía is close to my house and I buy his cloth for everyday outfits. It is expensive, 3 sueldos and 4 dineros each alna, so each outfit costs me 35 sueldos. For my fancier clothes, I buy cloth imported from Paris or Vervins, which is much more expensive but has an excellent softness and colour.
