Jeroni Tovià (1352-1410)

I am Jeroni Tovià, master weaver.

I was born in Valencia, in the parish of the Santa Cruz, in the year 1352 of the Nativity of the Lord, so I am 39 years old. I am the master of a pelaire workshop that I inherited from my father, Pascual Tovià. I have lived through times of unrest. From childhood I remember a terrible seige held by the Castillians while the new walls were still being built. Shortly after the workshop opened a terrible famine spread throughout the Crown and almost killed my family. Every year we have to pay more taxes and mortalities visit us often. Some make serious accusations against the Jews saying that they poison the waters to kill Christians, as they did with Jesus. In daily matters they seem like good people, but tensions rise more and more every day. I am a good Christian: I go to Church, I comply with the brotherhood and even acted in the mystery of San Cristobal that we performed for the feast of Corpus.
