Miquel Toviá (1453-1512)

I am Miquel Toviá, merchant of Valencia.

I was born in Valencia in 1453 and am forty six years old. I am a merchant and counselor of the city by the parroquia of San Nicólas, where I live in the palacio. I own several shops in the city, where I sell fabric of lana made in my workshops but also the most beautiful pieces of silk of Flanders and Italy. I come from a family of artisan weavers of wool. My father was a man fully dedicated to the world of business and I continue trading with all kinds of goods and diversifying the money in land, censales, and leases. My fortune, blessed by God, is growing and will soon be able to move upward to the ciudadano honrado. I have three children, Jerome, twenty two, Ursola, twenty, and Miquel, seventeen. Jerome studies letters in Bolonia to join the service of the king; he just bought the manors of Villamalur and Ayódar and will soon marry the daughter of Mr. Torres Torres. Ursola will marry the second son of Baron Chóvar, Arnaú Mascó. Finally, Miquel has entered the Church and if he knows how to move forward, perhaps the Pope Alejandro VI native of Xátiva, will request him to his court in Rome.
