Arnau Mascó (1443-1504)

I am Arnau Mascó, knight, baron of Chóvar.

I am sir Arnau Mascó, 56 years old, baron of Chóvar. I live in Valencia, which is full of nobles and merchants. My son and heir Baltasar is married to the daughter of the Lord of Pedreguer. Lluís, my middle son, will marry Ursola Tovía, the daughter of a wealthy merchant who will deliver a very generous dowry: 15.000 sueldos, land in Picassent, income and a trousseau full of silks and silverware. Isabel, my little girl, wants to marry one of the sons of the Lord of Alfara, but I prefer she enters the Zaidía Monastery. My wife supports it, but I do not think our financial situation could afford to pay the dowry. We should look up the Roderic Borja, Pope Alexander VI, who places each of his children in a strategically distinct position: Joan, Baron of Sella, as a cardinal in Rome; Caesar, as head of the papal armies and brother-in- law to the King of Navarre; and Pere Lluís, Duke of Gandia and Baron of Llombai, making a fortune in Valencia, as evident through the beautiful palace he just constructed facing the church of San Lorenzo.
